Sorry I really don’t know much about that area. I was there for 2 months and I just got back but I was in the Chiba area. Lonely Planet has a really good guide to Japan that I found helpful and they go through all the areas and prefectures of Japan in that book.

I went to Japan in April with a 12-year-old, 9-year-old, 7 -year-old, and 6-year-old. Their favorite places were, in this order:
1) The 100-yen stores.
2) The hot springs resort.
3) The izakayas (pubs) where you can sit around on the floor with a large group sampling lots of dishes but you’re really cheating because there’s a hollowed out space under the table for your feet.
4) Toy departments inside the department stores. Nagoya station has a Tokyu Hands store that is full of interesting things (craft supplies, travel goods, etc.) from around the world. It’s not as much fun as it used to be, though, because the 100-yen stores have pretty cool stuff too.
Since Japan is toy heaven and things are pretty expensive, I recommend having a reward system to help control the buying frenzy. For example, buy a small Japanese coin purse (100 yen!) and pay 10-yen for every new Japanese word/letter the child learns/uses. The saving can be as satisfying as the spending.
Have fun! I’ll be happy to answer any more specific questions you might have.

Here’s a few other ideas of things to do in Nagoya if you don’t mind riding the train a spell. Many of these are a few minutes walk from the station.
*’The Nagoya TV Tower’ tour might be interesting for the both of you? You’ll have a spectacular view of the city as well.

?It’s very HOT & HUMID now here in Japan and we’re still having some rain, so bring two pairs of shoes/sandals, -light, comfy clothes that dry easily and a handkerchief or two if you have them. If you’ll be out and about, bring your caps, sunscreen and sunglasses if you use them.
If it gets too hot out, stop and have a delicious ‘kakigori’ (Japanese shaved ice with flavored syrup topping)

with your child. They will absolutely love it and be refreshed and cool! It’s delicious!
You might be able to catch a summer festival or two as well. I think your child will love this. Lots of summer games for children and fun things to do. You may even want to get your child a little ‘yukata’ at UNIQLO,

great prices!
Hope this helps, have a great time!?
