I suggest you actually start in San Francisco and rent a car. An RV can be difficult to maneuver if you’re visiting big cities and a second hand car isn’t reliable enough to cover thousands of miles. A rented car is insured if it breaks down, they’ll just give you another car. If you want to see Georgia and Canada you should probably head down the coast to LA (not as scenic as north of San Francisco, but still nice. Stop in Monterey.), head East through the Southwest through New Orleans, then Northeast into Georgia. After visiting your friends just head up north to New York. From there it’s a quick hop to Canada, you can either go through Niagara Falls or head north through Maine before entering Canada as you prefer.

You should rent a car.
Driving across the country involves a lot of mountains, and you’ll use an incredible amt of gas in an RV. However, you’d save somewhat on motel bills. However, campsites arent cheap either, and many you have to have reservations, in advance.
1. We drive on the right side of the road.
2. Guaranteed you’ll get lost in LA….at least once. I lived there 35 yrs.
If you miss an exit you could go miles and miles out of your way.
The Mrs needs to be navigator. LA Metro is about 80 square miles big (thats similar to a kilometer).
There’s more people than just gangs that could shoot you in LA.
Dont honk at ANYONE.
3. Georgia and Canada are lots of miles apart. It would be helpful to know what part of Canada.
Im not sure how that works, they just passed this thing where we in the US have to have a passport to go to Canada now ( and vice versa) You might check on that too.
Your cheaper motels would be
Motel 6
Super 8
They are ..ok. Nothing fancy, but theyre are chain motels and have a standard to uphold
Better than a single motel that could be awful. Always check the room before agreeing to pay for it.
Best photography spots are
Big Sur California ( near Santa Cruz..north. The coast hiway in CA is a great drive)
Yellowstone Park Wyoming
Rocky Mountain National Park — Colorado
Arches State Park / Bryce Canyon–Utah
In the west.
Go to http://www.youtube.com and search around different places you want to go
Search a state or city or place plus driving
Like “Driving Rocky Mountains”
This is the highest road you can drive on in the US

Far above the treeline.

Rent a car with a GPS tracking device so you don’t have to worry about getting lost. An Rv is expensive on gas, but saves on hotels. However you will want to go to some big cities which makes RV difficult. If you did not care about big cities at all, then an RV would be good for you. Stay away from used car, no one wants to see you on the news. If you know how to fix cars, then a used car would be your cheapest way to travel. Either way make sure to have a GPS tracking system.
1. Yes we are different driving on other side of the road. I’d be more concerned with the low quality of drivers here in the US.
2. Things in LA can happen but not if you go through the right parts.
3. Being a photographer you will want to take pictures of big cities as well as small areas.
I would start your trip in Canada so make sure you and your wife have a passport. Go to Toronto Ontario and drive through Canada until you get to part of Canada that is above Michigan, United States. There is a bridge that takes you from one part of Michigan to the other and it is spectacular! You will have to take a picture. After that you are in the United States, drive to Chicago and get to Interstate 80. Go west on Interstate 80 so you can go through Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone Park and see the salt in Salt Lake City Utah. Then you will go through Nevada into Lake Tahoe area of California. You can turn north to see Seattle and Portland, or continue to San Francisco. When in San Francisco go south on Highway 101 and you will see the coast of California until you get to Los Angeles. From Los Angeles you can go to Las Vegas if you want. I would get to Interstate 10 which will take you through Arizona (You may want to stop by Grand Canyon) New Mexico into Texas (El Paso San Antonio Houston). When in Houston stay on 10 east to New Orleans. Continue east on 10. You will quickly hit the pan handle part of Florida (Pensacola, Florida) and see one of the most beautiful beaches. From the pan handle, I would north into Georgia to visit your Newfies. Stop in Atlanta if you can. From there drive south to Miami Florida. From Miami, drive north on Interstate 95. You will go by Walt Disney in Orlando Florida and Jacksonville Florida. You will go through Savannah Georgia into South Carolina. Visit Hilton Head Island and Myrtle Beach. Then go through North Carolina to Fayetteville, North Carolina and Raleigh. From Raleigh take Interstate 40 east to Interstate 95. Interstate 95 will then take you through Virginia to Washington DC. From DC go east to the coast so you can go across the bay bridge tunnel, spectacular! Go up highway 13 until it reconnects with Interstate 95. You will go through New Jersey and hit New York City. Fromtherer you can head back to starting point in Canada, unless you did by second hand car. Enjoy and send me pictures, smile.

actually, we drive on the right side of the road. you guys are on the left.
only if youre dumb enough too.
go to land marks on the way. its a good month or so driving, so take your time. whats an extra few day gonna do. get a car, but with some space, like a truck because hotels are MUCH better than rvs. nothing is cheap in this economy though. but at least stay in a goot mariott hotel or another good chain (NOT days in though).
