1.7 million. Not counting Michelle’s pedicures and side trips to the boutique.
    Disgraceful and costly.
Oh, by the way, did Chicago get the Olympics?

I don’t see why there’s such a fuss about this.

It has become the practice of heads of state to lobby for their country – Putin did it for Russia, Blair for the UK and so on.

Of all the nations in contention only one can win.

By having POTUS go we put our best foot forward. He spent a total of five hours on the ground, and on AF1 is just as well able to function as in the WH.

We did not win, Brazil did and good for them.

Being a sore loser is unattractive.

He’s just going to add that to the price of health care. Americans have deep pockets. Surely we can spare some money for Michelle to go shopping around the world.

I see the George Bush made me do it crowd is still lurking around
school yards. Bush is gone folks. And even when he was still here.
He was doing a far better job. Then the guy who is going through the
motions now. At least Bush was just 1/2 an idiot.

Far more than we ever wanted to pay. The money aspect is just part
of the problem. The real issue is the lack of respect this president
shows for this Nations Problems. He would rather fly around the world
on the US dime. Drag his Chicago hoods around with him to try and
pimp the US into the Olympics. He couldn’t use just one Plane he
had to use two planes. One for the African Queen and her traveling
side show. Along with AF1. Now lets add Hotels and meals. and
transportation cost (ground wise) Security etc. And all we got as a
Nation. was the Usual Obama result Nothing.

What about the 4 days that George W. Bush wasted at the 2008 Games in China doing nothing but watch the games?

It cost a lot of Hope and a big chunk of Change. Just like everything else this arrogant know it all is trying to shove down this country’s throat.

Well the question is not what he should have been doing, but what you need to be doing so that you do not post more ignorant posts like this. I suggest an education regarding political science or critical thinking courses

Just another Obama hater, without provocation really. You probably have no idea what good he has done.

    Pathetic.

not including the money, the taxpayers lost far more on an international level….

“”[First], when an American president voluntarily takes up a fight and loses badly, it’s a big deal. Obama could have stayed out. Having the summer Olympics in Chicago doesn’t involve the national interest. But he thought the matter important enough to fly to Denmark and make the pitch for his hometown in person. He put his prestige on the line, only to be slapped down. He can’t blame George W. Bush for this one, though his minions may try.

We know the world loves Obama. What the action by the International Olympic Committee demonstrates is that being loved isn’t the same as being influential or taken seriously or respected or feared — the traits of many of Obama’s predecessors in the presidency. If he can’t deliver on a vote of the IOC, does he really have the clout to pressure the mullahs in Iran into giving up their nuclear ambitions? Maybe not.

[Second], Obama’s aides assured reporters the president wouldn’t be put in a position where he could be embarrassed. But that’s exactly what happened. The White House gang thought the IOC was poised to ratify the president’s bid for a Chicago Olympics. Hardly anyone else shared that view, including the Japanese, who figured Tokyo wouldn’t be picked but Rio would be and Chicago would finish last.

The issue here is one of incompetence. Somebody — maybe more than one person — didn’t scope out the inclinations of the IOC’s voting members adequately or utterly misread how a personal appearance by the American president would be received. Imagine if something like this occurred on a national security issue.

[Third], where was the charisma, the skill in persuading people to see things Obama’s way? The media has built Obama up as a communicator who’s the equal of Ronald Reagan and Franklin Roosevelt. True, he’s delivered several fine speeches, but all of them before he became president. Now he’s either lost his touch or never was the orator the press said he was.”"

it doesn’t take a degree in poly science or “critical thinking” to understand this was a failure from the beginning mostly because who obama has surrounded himself with and the common knowledge that this was nothing more than a huge payoff to his tight cronies. now that he finally got a taste of humblism on the world stage, i would suggest to him, in the eyes of the americans…..”we told you so” !!!!!!!

Travel by The President of The united States is always covered by the Federal Government. On his way to make his Olympic speech, President Obama held meetings and carried on his regular duties. On his way home from his Olympic speech, President Obama held meetings and carried on his regular duties. Michele paid her own way.
