You would have to be living in the US when your child was born in order for the child to be a US citizen.

Yes. For Canada, it’s dual, but the US does not allow dual citizenship. Parents have to select.

He will have the option of dual citizenship. Yes- he was born within our borders so he is an American. Congrats. He joins an ever growing club of babies born here while parents were visiting.

No.
In almost all countries now, and that includes the United States, the citizenship of the child is the same as that of the mother.

Your child is a US citizen by birth. He/she should have a US birth certificate, which is proof of US citizenship.
The baby also would have gained Canadian citizenship at birth IF, at the time of birth, one of you (the parents) was also a Canadian citizen. If this is the case, you just need to apply for a “certificate of Canadian citizenship”, and he/she is a dual citizen by birth.
If you were not yet Canadian citizens at the time of birth, you can now apply for Canadian citizenship for your child. He/she would not lose US citizenship in this case, and would become a dual citizen by virtue of naturalization.
Also, both countries have recognized dual nationality for almost 30 years now.
